This year's Niconico Gakkai, an event that aims to give a place to present and spread to the world user-participatory research involving "Wild Researchers," has established a subcommittee known as the "Niconico Data Research Conference."
The world of CGM and UGC, such as what is found on Nico Nico Douga, does not only include creators who make works on their own, but also includes individuals who quantify and digitize the goings-on in the world, collecting, recording, organizing, and analyzing it. Many of these people do not do this in order to present academic essays or as part of their jobs, but are "Wild Researchers" who conduct research around the clock because of purely personal questions or interests, and because of a personal, CGM-like joy that moves them, much like the creators of the videos and illustrators they study. The Nico Nico Data Research Conference aims to focus on these individuals, acting as a place to bridge individual researchers so that they can share their know-how and collaborate together.
At this event, we will be holding the "Nico Nico Data Research Conference Vocaloid Meeting" alongside the World Vocaloid Convention, gathering researchers who study data focusing specially around the culture related to Vocaloid.
The event will feature various individuals introducing their research, lightning talks that anyone in attendance is free to participate in, data exchange gatherings, and so on. Topics discussed will look at various Vocaloid-related fields, such as niconico, piapro, pixiv, YouTube, doujinshi events, karaoke, cosplay, MikuMikuDance, figures, commercial CDs, live events, and so on, and will gather various kinds of data, such as video play counts, comment counts, mylist entry counts, the number and trends of songs, the number and attributes of creators and fans, character popularity, rankings, survey results, sales, underwear patterns, and the like, creating a place where talks will or won't take place that introduce different kinds of data, show ways of looking at data, discuss what kind of data researchers would be happy to have, and so on.
We hope you come and energetically participate.
